We've never taken our youngest child to the Zoo yet, and when we realised that a few weeks ago, we decided we had to get there this summer, one way or the other. These photos are from our last visit, a few years ago now. Hard to believe it's been that long.

There are all kinds of animals there of course, though our Zoo is a modest one compared to the likes of San Diego or Central Park in New York. What makes the Dublin one a great day out is how well they planned it from a kid's point of view: there's a Meerkat cafe where you can enjoy lunch while watching meerkats play on the other side of a glass wall, plenty of small playparks around, and a farmyard petting zoo.

I think this fellow thought that "PIGS" might be short for "PIGEONS"?

Of course, after driving three hours to visit this place (and facing a three-hour journey home again) the kids' favourite part was...
THE SLIDE.
Typical.

enjoyed your post...amazing what the children like from such a trip and remember as the best part :)
have a wonderful evening.
Hi Susan,
Your local zoo looks very quaint. In fact, it looks like the animals are more at home than in the big city zoos. (And see, you are making wonderful memories for your kids.)
I enjoyed reading the post about you vs. the fly in the raisin bread batter. I don't think that there were two. You won!
I like your new profile photo.
Hey Susan! Great post as always and, of course, I love zoos! I wrote about ours after my son took me to our zoo here for Mother's Day. Always a fun trip!
Have a great week!
That looks like a fun outing to take the children on. I like all the shots but I love the happy children one on the slide.
I love the shot of the rhino enclosure, it looks really huge. And the meerkat cafe is a neat idea.
Hi Susan, just came back from vacation and settling back into blog world! I love flamingo birds - they are so elegant and beautiful! It loks like you had fun there!
Funny that the kids seemed to like the slide best. But I'm sure they remembered the animals long after and enjoyed the trip.
I never got over loving the zoo. I'll go even if I don't have a kid to take.
Many years ago my friend read the word Pigeon for pig e on. She still has a blank with the word now, much to here students amusement. Children and animals go together so well in a way we adults often lose as we get older. Joyful post.
But it was the slide AT DUBLIN ZOO. The child will be a connoisseur by the end of the season.
Now I know that pigs do fly!
That is a long drive for a days outing but it is important for kids to learn about animals other than the domestic ones.
That's really funny they liked the slide best. I hope you get to visit again soon.
Great post as always Susan!
Have a fantastic week

What fun - just like a kid who plays with the box that toy came in. :)
Always fun to visit a zoo. I'm sure the kids will remember this experience, beyond the slide.
Zoo's are always fun. Those flamingo's seem familiar, almost thought I was seeing pictures of Florida.
I love the picture of the kids on the slide...the zoo looks very nice... All the posts for My World are so unusual and interesting all around the globe.
Lovely photos, a pity to drive all that way just for the day. No rellies that you could spend the night with?...or a caravan park perhaps? Driving 6 hrs. with children is not the greatest fun for parents or the younger generation.
I hope very much that you all enjoy it when you do go.
I don't think a zoo needs to be gigantic for a little child. They just love being with their parents on a lovely day seeing animals they might not normally see around them at home. I love the photo of the pigeon.
Susan I enjoyed this as well, what a handsome guy!
I an surprised the kids enjoyed a slide more than the animals in the zoo. But thats kids I guess.
Thats a nice pig err pigeon!
I am nearly down in the Zoo every second week now after all the new baby animals born. Glad you had a good time in the Zoo. I have been in a few zoo's now and you are right about the layout of Dublin Zoo. Pitty that the new Tiger cubs are not out on public view yet. If I can get the images this weekend they will be released to the public then.
I am done anticipating taking Lorelei to the zoo and to the fairs to see the animals.
