Skywatch Friday in Air and Space

The sky was blue behind the clouds as we drove through Cumberland Maryland, and the sunset was pretty in Hagerstown.

But the next morning in Washington DC was grey and drizzly, and the day stayed that way, hour after hour. Of course, that didn't stop us (or other family and friends who were visiting) from taking photos all over the place.

When the museums opened at 10am we took our skywatching inside, to the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum.

WOW!

There were airplanes and rockets, fascinating displays and moon rocks, warplanes and spy drones and stories, everywhere. The kids loved it.

We even visited the Wright Brothers and they agreed to join us in a family photograph on their front porch, wasn't that nice of them? Now if only I'd remembered to readjust my camera settings after coming in from the brightly lit atrium... oh well.

Tomorrow night our journey back to Ireland begins; the weather reports say it's raining there too. Quel surprise! But at least our plane ride will be slightly more comfortable than Charles Lindbergh's must have been. We could almost reach out to touch his airplane, and seeing it hanging there hardly larger than our family car made his amazing journey more real---and astounding.

You can visit the Smithsonian's Air & Space Museum on their website, and you can visit skies around the world at Skywatch Friday.

What a wonderful collection of shots! My personal favorites are the 2nd sky shot with the streaming pink, and the baseball game with a view... AWESOME!

Sorry it rained in Washington...but hey! You must have felt right at home. ;-)

I've seen the Lindburgh plane too and yep, he was way braver than I'll ever be.

I love the second pic of the pastel clouds - lovely! I love DC. I was there last week visiting my son. My knees don't let me walk much but I so love that place. :)
Best wishes for a safe trip back home. Be sure to keep our 'Almost Heaven' in your heart. :)

Your kids are getting a great education - they're seeing more of this great country than I saw by age 30!

2 of our 3 Fathers are back from Ireland with stronger brogues than when they left. I can't wait for the third one to return to hear what he sounds like!

Hi Susan, wonderful photographs. I'm glad you had such a great time over here. Funnily enough I will be going into DC tomorrow. My husband has to see a client there in the afternoon and he is going to drop me off on the Mall where I will see as many of the museums as I can before he picks me up. We only live 25 miles out of the city and go there often during the year. Hope your flight back home went well and I shall look forward to seeing your photos from beautiful Ireland.

I'm glad you had fun with the Wright Bros. DC is an amazing place and it is a shame I live so close and hardly go visit! :( I'm going to try and do better this Fall when all the visitors go home! :D I hope you are settled back in to your routine in lovely Ireland!!
